Its not looking good at all.

Seems Simoncelli came off and was hit by Edwards and Rossi and his helmet came off in the incident. Hope to god he's OK but Im fearing the worst.

Horrible.

He was a real flamboyant rider and made races much more interesting.

Rest in peace.

Read the report but nothing said about cause.  Sounded like a simple racing accident, but anyone have any details?

Simoncelli low sided on a right hander, then the bike suddenly caught some grip and whilst still in a low-side position came back on to the racing line.

Colin Edwards had no chance to avoid hitting him, riding into his back. Rossi likewise, only he didn't hit his back, but took Simoncelli's helmet off.

Initial reports said that Marco regained consciousness briefly but I don't think there could ever have been a positive outcome.

From what I saw on the footage, he lost the front end, tried to get the bike back up with his knee, the bike dragged him across the circuit in front of Edwards and Rossi and they unfortunately couldn't avoid him, it was a normal accident with a horrible ending.

Watching the replays on YouTube there were links to plenty of other accidents where riders ended up on the floor in the middle of a pack, one where a Supersport rider took a motorcycle in the face and walked away.

Appears to be a tragic and somewhat freak accident. Whereas Las Vegas organisers could be criticised for putting too many cars on too small a track, I don't see that there can be much to learn from this one other than motorsport being dangerous and unpredictable.

RIP Marco. He certainly brought something else to MotoGP. From what I saw it was a racing incident, there was absolutely nothing Edwards or Rossi could do to avoid the falling bike and rider.

R.I.P Marco, such a wonderful character who brought light to MotoGP. He was doing so well. x

Rossi and Edwards must be so shaken up with the way it happened. Unavoidable and such a shame.
