My money is on there being some sort of clause in there life insurance policy.
I dare say it would be invalid if they were to get some form of tumor etc in years to come, if it were to be deemed that they put themselves 'at risk'

I would have said it was more related to their immediate self-preservation rather than whether their life insurance policy would be voided in years to come.

My view.......if I'm not sure of the situation and how it may affect my health in the future (which is what it sounds like to me from the rider comments) I wouldn't go either, no matter who thought I was "gutless"!!!

But of course, it has been deemed safe so they have no reason to be wary....... as we all know, governments never "alter the truth"
