Hi, thinking about getting a bike in the future..

Hey im Ben
I'm currently thinking/ made my mind up that when I'm 17 i would like to learn to ride a bike rather than drive a car.
I'm just a little bit confused as to what route to take..
Should i do my CBT and just ride a 125cc, or do the under 21 route to having no limits after 2 years is it?
Also.. maybe a bit off topic what i just asked but... there is a motorbike school rather close to me and the CBT for £85... surely that can't be that cheap? like do i do lessons on top or do i learn it all in a day 0,o?
Thanks in advance

the cbt is the 1st milestone. you do that and you can ride a 125 at 17 with l plates, for 2 years. and yes, that is about the right price
then
you take your theory, then do some training(usually its all done in a week, but you can have lessons by the hour too) take your module 1 and module 2 and then you can ride up to 33bhp for 2 years, then anything you can afford to insure.

At your age, CBT then 125. Plus you'll need kit, insurance, maintenance costs, tax, MOT's etc.
Looking at say £1500-2000 at that stage. As a rough guesstimate.
Then get some lessons, see how your fixed for cash, get your test and look at moving up.

If you're flanning on gong to uni, that helps a lot as you can get the student loans at around 0.5% interest
Remember to look at the other stuff you might require for the CBT, e.g. Collision Damage Waiver (usually around £15-£20) which means if you were to have the misfortune of crashing in to a car or damaging the bike, you wont have to pay the excess on the insurance (around £700 I believe). Also is the fee for the bike hire included in the price? And is the hire of any protective gear you require included?
Just as a reference for you to compare against, this is the company I'm hoping to re-do my CBT with:
http://www.camrider.com/prices/burystedmunds.html
Also worth noting if they have a "guaranteed pass" scheme. This simply means if you aren't riding to the required standard by the end of the day, you can go back another day and they'll give you more training for free until you get there.
Best of luck

I'll be using a bike to get to college for the last year then uni/job in the future so i think a CBT and a 125 will be fine..
I have saved around 800 pound at the minute and a large part towards a bike/insurance/gear/test etc will be birthday presents when I'm actually 17 so in all i would probably have around 2000
Thanks for the advice both.. and that link you put doesn't have any "schools(i guess)" near me =[

some places near me do a cbt for £85 so yes it can be that cheap four or five hours on a bike and you are street legal with L plates. friend of my daughters got a tidy 125 off ebay for £460 paid £400 to insure it and it was taxed anyway. leathers gloves helmet off ebaY AND FOR UNDER £1100 HE WAS ON THE ROAD ...... Some good little hondas and yamahas on here gone for very little money. Have fun and keep doing the life savers .. really remember them all the time
