Here is the start of my "Ultimate" side stand support. Its a 6"x6" piece of chequer plate (free from local machine shop, unwanted cuttoff), which i am going to round the corners off & attached reminder cord, the type you get with disc locks. The chequer pattern should stop the side stand from slipping & I think it will be a bit more durable than a drinks can or one of those plastic jobbies.

A tenner wont do, no use at all. A tenner will fold up as soon as you put the side stand down on soft ground.
What you need is a puck. be-it plastic or metal it'll be a lot better at keeping your bike from falling over than a ten pound note.
