I miss my bike!!!

« on: May 16, 2008, 12:41:38 AM »

I'm sure a couple of the forum members will only confirm, but I have spent a really good day, in a safe and friendly environment, full of advices, and the like minded people and a pretty good and warm sunshine.

I was fearing the normal trackdays, where everybody wants to prove that they are better and overtake you, whatever happens. Hopp rider training is here to give you advice, give you the confidence, review the laps with you.

They are very easy to approach and also Cadwell is a cracking track!!!

Oh go on then, I'll share my pics and my video!!  blech

and the live bit....

Only after watching it i realised where I could have been quicker!! If anybody of you wants to go, I might book myself again!! I know stoney is going on the 29th of july.....Oh god I tempted cool

In corner speed, and also try to change my body position, as my poor pegs are all scraped, as the toe sliders, lol

Corner speed wise, Cadwell is quite tricky.  Several of the corners are blind and can be taken a lot faster than you'd expect.  Charlies 1 and the Gooseneck are both good examples.

You're also turning in too early and consequently apexing too early.  You know the cones they put out?  They're the usual turn in and apex markers.  Try to hit them (not literally very happy).

Again, Gooseneck is an example.  You should apex that one almost right at the exit to the first right hander in order to be lined up for entry into the left hander.  To do that you stay out wide and turn across the corner to the right hand side of the track.  Sort of like you would on the road actually, if you think of the track as your lane.

Finally there's a slightly delay in opening the throttle.  You're waiting a little longer than necessary to start accelerating.  Nothing to bad though.

Looked good overall though.

I noticed they are taking bookings again

do you guys think it's worth the £175?

my main concern is it's a 7:30am start, and the place is 2.5hours away :S

Nothing better than riding as the sun comes up.

I'm a big fan of these days. Great training and a safe friendly environment. Its not aimed at wanabe racers but folk that want to improve their riding, and enjoy a safe fun day on a fantastic track.

There are plenty of cheap B&Bs nearby if you get in early!

I've been once with Alfz1 and randomly met Stoney there having not met prior.
Definitely worth going and I'd go again if I had a spare £200.
We stayed in a youth hostel not far away the night before - Woody's Top. Very basic and in the middle of nowhere but a nice country lane ride and cheap.

Don't forget to fuel up at the town down the road rather than at the track, they charge.

Perhaps something could be organised for a warmer time in the year, I would be quite interested in doing something like this myself too.

the 2011 May date is on the 18th, not the 5th

Nice one. I'll be on a red/black 2006 fireblade in group A - or possibly the yellow beemer in my avatar. Drop me a PM if you need any tips on places to stay!

I've just been singing Hopps praises in the bedford autodrome thread.  It seems they are there for 2 days back to back with the police track day on 17th May which friends are booked into.

was a cool day out, though i felt like i'd placed myself a little low in the novice group, but by the end of the day i was really pushing myself. was a shame though that some people were skipping sessions and didn't want to go out on a slightly damp track

overtaking was a little frustrating, especially in C group, as there was limited opportunities given the restrictions guidelines, plus the usual straight line heroes (some guy on a litre bike was complaining he couldn't get past people, i was actually stuck behind him on the corners and couldn't overtake him on the straights!)

here's some pics from the day:
