Where do you sit when in a line of traffic. No overtaking opportunities, no need as you're quite happily pootling along and going with the flow on a straight road.
Where do you put yourself to offer the car in front the best view of you? In the middle of the lane so you're right in his rear view mirror or on the right of the lane to put yourself in his wing mirror too?
I didn't realise it but I'm doing the second option. I had a driving update course in RRVs recently and the instructor sais something along the lines of "you ride a bike, don't you?" When i answered in the affirmative and asked him how he knew he said it was from my road positioning, it was good to see me making myself as big as possible in the car's mirrors. |

I was told by an IAM observer the other day to stay in track 1 or 5(towards the curb or towards the white lines) depending on the situation, so you have an escape route should anything turn nasty.

| to the middle of the road, so I can see past the traffic. Pull in if oncoming traffic may cross the centre line, passing cyclists, tractors etc. Never like to sit directly behind the vehicle infront so I'll move over to the inside. Same when riding with other bikes, i always try to ride in a staggered formation, as do most other riders I know. |
